AI Citations

When people ask AI about your topics, who gets named — and is it you? AI Citations answers that question with per-platform data for every keyword you track. For each combination of keyword, AI platform, and date, it records how often brands were mentioned, whether your own domain was cited, how many times your domain came up, the AI search volume behind the topic, and the impressions those answers earned. Alongside the per-keyword view sits a top-domains leaderboard: the domains that get mentioned and cited most often on each platform, with yours flagged so you can see your citation share against the field.

  • A project with tracked keywords. Citation data is keyed to your keywords, so the keyword set defines what gets measured.
  • Available data budget. Citation data comes from VisibilityIQ’s AI visibility monitoring; refreshing it is an on-demand pull that consumes a little of your project’s monthly data budget. Recurring sync is opt-in per project.
  • Your own domain configured on the project, so the page can flag your mentions and citations distinctly from everyone else’s.

Open your project and go to AI Visibility → AI Citations. The default view lists your tracked keywords, each broken out by AI platform and date, with the mention and citation metrics recorded for that slice.

Switch to the top-domains view to see the leaderboard: per platform, the domains named and cited most for your topics, with your own domain highlighted. To bring in fresh data, choose Sync AI mentions — VisibilityIQ pulls current mention and citation figures and updates both views.

Each keyword-by-platform-by-date row carries these measures:

FieldWhat it tells you
Mention countHow many times brands were mentioned in answers for this keyword on this platform.
Own-domain citedWhether your own domain was cited in those answers.
Own-domain mention countHow many of the mentions were yours — your slice of the conversation.
AI search volumeThe volume of AI search demand behind the keyword, so you can weight topics by how much they matter.
ImpressionsHow many impressions those AI answers earned, a measure of reach.

Read the per-keyword rows to find topics where AI is answering actively (high mention count, high AI search volume) but your domain isn’t cited — those are the highest-leverage gaps. The top-domains leaderboard reframes the same data competitively: it’s an AI citation-share ranking, showing which domains the platforms reach for most and where you sit relative to them. If a competitor dominates the leaderboard on a keyword you care about, their cited pages are your study targets.

AI Citations tracks whether you’re cited; it doesn’t promise that you will be. A keyword where you’re absent today is a prompt to study and improve the cited pages, not a fixed outcome.

Use Sync AI mentions whenever you want a current read — after publishing, after a competitive shift, or ahead of a report. Each sync is an on-demand pull against your monthly data budget. To keep AI Citations current automatically, enable recurring sync for the project; it remains off until you opt in, so nothing is spent without your say-so.
