Topical Authority
Topical Authority shows you where your domain is already strong. Instead of chasing one keyword at a time, it groups your visibility into content categories and ranks them by estimated traffic value, keyword count, and a relevance score — so you can see at a glance which subjects you genuinely own. Expand any category to see its keywords and which of your tracked keywords overlap. This is about building depth in subjects you can credibly win, not collecting unrelated wins. It is action-first: you trigger a sync when you want fresh numbers.
What you’ll need
Section titled “What you’ll need”- A project with your own domain configured, so authority is measured for your site.
- Available data budget. Category and authority data comes from VisibilityIQ’s keyword intelligence; a sync consumes a small part of your project’s monthly data budget.
How to use
Section titled “How to use”Open your project and go to Keywords & Content → Topical Authority.
- Click Run sync to pull your current category authority.
- Scan the ranked categories.
- Expand a category to inspect its keywords and the overlap with the keywords you already track.
How to read the results
Section titled “How to read the results”Each category is scored on three axes you read together:
| Signal | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Estimated traffic value (ETV) | The traffic value the category represents — how much it’s worth |
| Keyword count | How many ranking keywords sit inside the category — its breadth |
| Relevance score | How central the category is to your domain — how well it fits you |
High-ETV, high-relevance categories are your strongholds: defend and expand them, because depth there compounds. Categories adjacent to a stronghold — related subject, high relevance, fewer keywords so far — are where you have a credible path to new authority. Expanding a category and seeing your tracked-keyword overlap tells you how much of that category you already cover versus how much is open ground to write into.
Refreshing the data
Section titled “Refreshing the data”Nothing recalculates on its own. Click Run sync to refresh the category breakdown after you’ve published new content or your rankings have shifted. If your monthly data budget is spent, the page shows a calm notice rather than an error — raise the budget or wait for the next cycle, then sync again.
