WHOIS & ownership

The WHOIS & ownership view surfaces the registration record behind your domain: who registered it, through which registrar, when, and — most importantly — when it expires. Two of these signals carry real SEO weight. Domain age is a small, slow-building trust signal, and an unnoticed domain expiry is catastrophic: every ranking and every backlink you have built evaporates the moment the domain lapses. The expiry-risk banner is here so that never happens by accident. All of this comes from VisibilityIQ.

  • A project with a verified domain.
  • Available monthly data budget — a WHOIS pull consumes from the project’s included budget.

Open the project, go to Domain Intel → WHOIS / Ownership, and the latest registration record displays. Click Refresh WHOIS to re-pull current data. The pull is on-demand and consumes from the project’s monthly budget, so refresh when you want to confirm a renewal or a registrar change rather than continuously.

The record breaks into ownership, dates, and identity fields.

FieldWhat it tells you
RegistrarThe company the domain is registered through
Registrant name / orgWho owns the domain, where the record discloses it
Registrant countryThe country on the registration record
Registration dateWhen the domain was first registered
Last updatedWhen the registration record last changed
Expiry dateWhen the current registration term ends
Domain ageHow long the domain has existed, in days
TLDThe top-level domain (.com, .io, and so on)

The expiry-risk banner is the field to watch. When the domain approaches its expiration date, VisibilityIQ raises a banner showing how many days remain (expires_in_days). Treat it as your early warning to renew — well before the date, not on it. Domain age is the slower signal: a long-established domain carries a little more trust than one registered last month, but it is one factor among many, not a lever you can pull.

Click Refresh WHOIS to re-pull the registration record. A refresh consumes from the project’s monthly budget. Refresh after you renew the domain, transfer registrars, or update ownership details so the record — and the expiry-risk banner — reflects reality.
