Map Rank

Map Rank is a geo-grid local rank tracker. It runs an N×N grid of points across a geographic area and records where your business ranks in the Google local pack at each point, then renders the result as a color-banded heatmap. A single rank number hides geography: you might dominate near your storefront but vanish three miles out. The grid shows you exactly where that line falls — and who is beating you on the far side of it.

  • A business location with its area defined, so VisibilityIQ knows where to center the grid.
  • The keyword or category you want to rank for in the local pack.
  • An available data budget — running a scan consumes your project’s monthly data budget. Recurring scans are opt-in per project.
  1. Open Map Rank for a location.
  2. Choose the keyword to scan and confirm the grid covers the area you care about.
  3. Run the scan. VisibilityIQ checks your local pack rank at each grid point and stores the result as a dated scan.
  4. Read the heatmap, then use the scan selector to compare the new scan against earlier ones over time.

Each cell is one grid point, colored by where you rank in the local pack there. The summary header above the grid gives you the three numbers that matter at a glance: your average rank across all points, your share of voice, and how the points distribute across the bands.

BandColorMeaning
GoodGreenYou rank strongly in the local pack at this point
AverageYellowYou appear, but mid-pack
PoorOrangeYou rank low — easy to miss
Out of packRedYou don’t appear in the local pack here at all

Hover or click any cell to see that point’s top competitor and its rank. That’s how you turn a weak patch into an action: a cluster of red on one edge of the grid, all losing to the same competitor, tells you who to study and where your reach falls off.

Each scan is a point-in-time snapshot, and running a new one consumes your monthly data budget. Run a fresh scan after you make local changes — corrected listings, new content, new reviews — and use the scan selector to compare it against the previous one to see whether your covered area grew. If you want scans on a schedule rather than on demand, turn on recurring scans for the project; they are opt-in and off by default.
