Connect Google Search Console
Your crawler tells you what should happen — which page declares which canonical, which URLs are reachable, what each page renders. Google Search Console tells you what did happen: which canonical Google actually selected, whether a page is indexed, and how it performs in search. Connecting GSC lets VisibilityIQ reconcile the two and surface the high-value discrepancies — a page you intended to index that Google dropped, or a canonical you declared that Google overrode. These source-reconciled findings are some of the most actionable the platform produces.
What you’ll need
Section titled “What you’ll need”- A project already created for the domain (Add your first project)
- Owner or Full user access to the matching GSC property — Restricted users can’t expose the data VisibilityIQ reads
- The Google account that holds that access — you just sign in with it; there’s no Google Cloud setup, no API to enable, and no credentials to create or paste
- A GSC property that has accrued some history; brand-new properties return little until Google backfills
Connect
Section titled “Connect”VisibilityIQ owns the Google OAuth application, so connecting is one click and a property picker — you never touch Google Cloud Console.
- In your project, open Settings → Connectors.
- On the Google Search Console card, click Sign in with Google.
- Choose the Google account that owns the property and review the requested permission. VisibilityIQ requests read-only (
webmasters.readonly) access to your Search Console data — it can read your analytics and inspection results, and it cannot submit, change, or delete anything in your property. Click Allow. - A property picker lists every GSC site your account can access. Select the property that matches your project’s canonical domain and confirm.
- The connector status flips to Connected and the first sync starts immediately.
If Google shows a brief “this app isn’t verified” caution while its review of VisibilityIQ is in progress, expand Advanced and choose Go to VisibilityIQ — it’s our own application and safe to proceed. The screen disappears once Google’s review completes.
The initial sync pulls up to the last 16 months of search analytics (Google’s maximum window). After that, syncs run on a daily cadence, picking up where the last one stopped rather than refetching everything.
What data is pulled
Section titled “What data is pulled”- Search analytics — queries, pages, clicks, impressions, CTR, and average position, daily and segmented by device
- Sitemaps submitted to GSC and their reported index coverage
- URL inspection results for pages that appear in your audit, including Google’s selected canonical and index status
VisibilityIQ uses read-only scopes only and never logs your OAuth tokens. You can revoke access at any time — Disconnect from the same Connectors screen drops the stored token, or remove VisibilityIQ from your Google Account → Security → Third-party access.
Troubleshoot
Section titled “Troubleshoot”“No properties to pick.” The Google account you signed in with lacks access to any GSC property. Retry with a different account, or confirm your access at search.google.com/search-console.
“No data after sync.” GSC data lags real traffic by 2–3 days, and recently added properties carry little history. Wait a day and re-check before assuming a fault.
Connector shows “Error.” The OAuth token likely expired or was revoked on Google’s side. Disconnect and reconnect from Settings → Connectors.
